This is your Commodore Speaking,
The restrictions on social gathering continues to limit our Club activities. We have cancelled recent dock parties and other social events including our annual wine tasting event and the popular Allens Landing cruise. One interesting side effect is the recent cruises have taken on a more relaxed and laid back theme which many have enjoyed. When the time comes and we put the COVID restrictions in the rear view mirror, I’m sure we will crank up the fun and social activities at some of the upcoming cruises. I know Chris and John Boswell are ready to unleash a whole new set of games.
Have you felt the change in the weather? Fall is slowing arriving, providing some of the best cruising weather. Don’t miss out on this time to enjoy time on the water, anchoring out or an extended cruise along the Texas coast.
Speaking of an extended cruise, I encourage everyone to consider our Fall Fling fundraiser cruise to Port Arthur and Pleasure Island Marina the weekend of October 23rd. Our Cruise Captain is working closely with the leaders at the Port Arthur Yacht Club to put on a great event with all proceeds going to help the Lake Charles Yacht Club get back on their feet following the destruction caused by hurricane Laura. Check the TMCA website (http://www.texasmariners.com) for more details.
Our Nomination Committee has been meeting (virtually) to identify members who would agree to give of their time and be nominated to one of the 2021 Board positions. I will communicate the Nomination Committee recommendations prior to the October 16th Monthly Meeting. Contact me or one of the current Board members if you would like to be considered.
Stay safe, boat smart,
TMCA Commodore, 2020
